Summer Camp
Summer camp is a great time for Scouts to explore the outdoors and learn new scout skills while having fun and making friends. A week-long camping experience allows for Scouts to have a wider range of experiences than a weekend campout while also meeting Scouts from other troops.
In 2010, Troop 305 is going to TWO summer camps: Ransburg Scout Reservation (June 6-12) and Camp Krietenstein (July 11-17). Ransburg is our primary troop summer camp - it is also our "Firecrafter" summer camp.
What goes on at summer camp?
At summer camp Scouts can work on merit badges, scout skills or participate in any number of outdoor activities. We eat meals together as a troop, and participate in camp-wide programs, and we will have a troop campsite that will be your home for the week and where we will gather in the evenings for Troop campfires. During the day, each scout is free to decide what they want to do as an individual.
Who can go?
All scouts are welcome to go to summer camp. There is something at camp for scouts of all ages and ranks.
How do I sign up?
Sign up sheets are posted on the bulletin board in the Scout room at the Kiwanis Building.
Medical forms for camping
All scouts who will be camping should have a completed medical form on file. Please note that BSA has changed the medical form process and new forms must now be completed annually (rather than the previous 3 year perios).
How Much Does It Cost? When / How Do I Pay?
Each summer camp is $230. The first half of the camp fee is due the first meeting in March, the balance is due in May. The troop does have scholarship money available - see the Scoutmaster if you need help paying for summer camp.
Do I (or my scout) need to bring extra money?
The short answer is yes, but there is no general amount. A scout may need extra money for merit badge supplies (see the class listing for an amount) and/or money to spend at the trading post. The trading post has everything from camp t-shirts, to nicknacks and collectibles, plus snacks and drinks. How much money a scout takes is entirely up to him and his family. One scout may take $50 and come home with it all spent; another may take $20 and have money left over.
I / My Scout Signed up but now i can't go. What do I do?
If you or your scout sign up for summercamp and something happens that makes you unable to go, you need to let the adult leader in charge of the campout know as soon as possible.
The refund policy for summercamp fees is governed by our Troop by-laws and by each camp's refund policy.
